The Vodafone National Club Championship will undergo restructure from next year says Fiji Football Association chief executive officer, Mohammed Yusuf.
Yusuf reveled this during the Vodafone National Club Championship pool draws last week at Fiji FA Headquarters in Vatuwaqa.
“We going to restructure NCC from next year to see more competition,” Yusuf said.
He said teams would have to play a certain number of games before they are nominated for the championship.
“A requirement will be given for the amount of games that a certain team needs to play and qualify. This is in line with the management’s requirement.
“For example where teams participate in the Oceania Champions League, for any country or member association, clubs that play in that league should play a minimum of 14 games to qualify. That is the structure that we want to put into the NCC next year.
“This is why in the southern zone, they don’t have Lami and Nasinu. We’re also going to be very strict on registration because a lot of teams are nominated and the players are not registered and some of these teams, their registrations are overdue and they come in the last minute and renew it. For example, Tavua had nominated a club, but we found out that half the players were not registered
“These are some of the things that all teams should note when taking part in the club championship.”
Yusuf reminded club officials that it is important to check if all players are registered.
“There were eight teams nominated from the West and South and unfortunately there were none from the North.
“We at Fiji football will take in strict actions to see that all teams do qualify and take part in this very imp ortant competition.”
Meanwhile eight teams have been confirmed for the Vodafone National Club Championship final play offs after the completion of the zonal competition last weekend.
Four team from the southern and four teams from the western zone will take part in the finals this weekend.
In the Southern Zone Rewa’s Raymond FC, Suva’s Civic FC and Bureta FC were the winners from their respective pools while Tailevu Naitaisiri’s Navuso Barbarians came in as the best runner-up.
In the Western Zone Blues FC of Nadi, Nailaga FC of Ba) and Greenstars FC of Nadroga) has qualified as winners from their respective pools while Service Sports Club of Lautoka has qualified as the best runner up.
The final play offs will be held this weekend with pool matches played at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori on Friday and Saturday while the semi-finals and finals will be played at Fiji FA Academy Grounds in Varuwaqa on Sunday.
